| For those that have been in the profession for many-a-year, is it true that you can find yourself caught up in an overflow of work? I have known a few copywriters who claim this; does that mean that copywriting as a business is the one to have, OR does that just merely signify that there arent enough wordsmiths to go around? Are there any tried and tested formulas out there that anyone may be willing to share?

| As far as copywriting go this to many people is a brand new industry to get into. It is becoming more and more competitive because more companies are starting to use outside resources to have their copywriting needs met in a short amount of time. So if you love to write all the time just like I do then copywriting would be the thing for you but you must know that it's more than just writing.

| Yes, it is possible to have too much work and have to turn it down. I've been in that happy position for the past 2 years. I have never yet found a job through an ad or a posting...it's all who you know. Friends who are writers refer friends, then after you've worked for a company for a while, the person is charge leaves for another company and "takes" you along. So now you're writing for the old company as well as the new. This was not an overnight process. It took me more than 10 years to really be able to say I could support myself on freelance work. So my advice would be, network, network, network. AND, realize that the minute you turn something in late, you're finished.

Competition can be tough and sometimes hundreds of people apply via some job board ads.
Sometimes ads ask for specific location requirements, even when on a freelance basis; while others state location can be anywhere. I guess, priority is given to the ones that fit the location; also the ones who have solid experience in a certain industry.
Many ask for samples of work, also a resume to follow. Good working samples, experience and qualifications are a major plus.
Visiting a web site and reading up about a company may help too, and then applying your interest in a brief message, if sending via email. If a company asks specifically for your resume to be pasted in an email then follow their request. If they ask for an attachment then oblige by the rule.

getting new clients is not a tough thing but its hard to maintain them.
you have got to be an expert at writing so as to get them to be with you forever.
You will google search and find ample of stuff waiting for you if you know the right keywords to put in the google search.

I had say, if you are keen on surviving from freelance writing, master the art and there's no other way.
As previously said, networking, networking, networking, networking, networking.. is the mantra.. getting clients is easy!
also, paid blogging is the latest fad! check out richdollarblog.blogspot.com and sign-up for google adsense program in case you havent by clicking on the banner on my blog and start a blog soon.

| I have been a freelance writing professional for a few years and I believe that if you are a highly skilled writer who has a passion for it, you will be noticed and before long, you will be busy. Work through credible websites and craft some good articles which can be used as samples. Observe the bids of experienced writers. Make usre that your PM and bid appears interesting and enticing to the buyer.
