Most clients do not know what they actually want or need, and I have found that we as freelance writers must be familar with things like rates, terminology, and anything else we are supposed to know, so that we could explain these things to the client.

In my experience, however, it is a good idea to fix up the terms of payment beforehand, and make sure that your payment reaches you on time before you start the next phase of the project.

I have been approached by several clients, some of whom are familar with what freelance writing involves, and several who are not. I have had to state my terms clearly, and I have been misunderstood several times, perhaps, I feel, due to cultural differences.

However, I have been enjoying myself as a freelance writer, and have been raking in the big bucks lately!

I am now balancing my time for everything like for school since i'm an advertising student in a university (still trying to keep up even when depressed for some reason), family business, and writing.

I've had my work published at first by calling up magazines and sending them my articles. I sent things by mail, e-mail, fax and even handed them hard copies myself at times. And it worked, anything with persistance works.

Right now I work for four magazines. It becomes easier with relationships and working on that can take some time.
